Recreation

The scenic Grande Ronde Valley and nearby Wallowa-Whitman National Forest offer Cove visitors many recreational opportunities. Cove sits on the state-designated Grande Tour Route, and the Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway, and we are just a few miles from the national Hells Canyon Scenic Byway.

Cove is home to the Historic Hendershott Home and Cove Warm Spring Pool, and is a key access point to the Eagle Cap Wilderness via Moss Springs Campground and Trailhead. Stay in the horse-ready campground, hit the trail to Minam River Lodge, or stay closer in Moss Springs Guard Station Cabin to explore Mt Fanny’s hiking trails.

Union, our neighbor to the south, features Buffalo Peak public golf course, several boutique shops, and hometown eateries. Union is also home to the Historic Union Hotel, and the Union County MuseumCatherine Creek State Park, 14 miles outside of Union, offers a campground, day use park, hiking trails, and great fishing.

The City of La Grande across the valley was once an encampment on the historic Oregon Trail. Now the county seat and the site of Eastern Oregon University, La Grande offers a variety of overnight accommodations, restaurants, shops, and services.

On the Union-Cove Highway sits the Mayo Clinic of the West: Historic Hot Lake Springs. Also, Ladd Marsh Wildlife provides year-round bird and wildlife watching, as well as fishing at the Peach Pond off Peach Road.
