Catherine Creek State Park, 14 miles outside of Union, offers a campground, day use park, hiking trails, and great fishing.
The City of La Grande across the valley was once an encampment on the historic Oregon Trail. Now the county seat and the site of Eastern Oregon University, La Grande offers a variety of overnight accommodations, restaurants, shops, and services.
On the Union-Cove Highway sits the Mayo Clinic of the West: Historic Hot Lake Springs. Also, Ladd Marsh Wildlife provides year-round bird and wildlife watching, as well as fishing at the Peach Pond off Peach Road.
